The Monarch Butterfly, the Canary in the Cornfield

GPS Educational Program Series presents renowned biologist, Craig Hensley, speaking on the monarch butterfly.  Learn how the iconic monarch butterfly is a true conservation indicator species in regard to the impact of habitat loss, climate change, pesticide utilization and the many other factors affecting our environment. After the program, Craig will be leading the audience outside to tag any monarchs he finds there. 

Craig Hensley is a lifelong naturalist, educator and researcher who has a Master’s degree in Zoology/Animal Biology. He recently retired as a biologist with the Texas Nature Trackers program. Prior to that he was a Park Ranger/Interpreter/Naturalist with the Guadalupe River State Park. Craig has a true passion for the wonders of the natural world and has a special talent in his ability to share it with others. 

This program will be held at the Tye Preston Memorial Library on October 21st, starting at 10:00am. Reservations are required. To register refer to the GPS member email from Canyon Gorge sent 9/24/25.
