What's Under Canyon Lake?

We are delighted to announce that our initial presentation in the GPS’s “Educational Program Series” for 2026 will be given by Joan Coffey-Wray, speaking on “What is Under Canyon Lake?”
You will learn about the original family communities living adjacent to Guadalupe River channel and others impacted by the project as well as physical infrastructures such as homes, commercial buildings, roadways, farms and ranches, cemeteries, etc. abandoned or relocated. Historic photos, newspaper articles and timelines of the project will be shared. After the 45 minute presentation, Joan will be available for questions and answers.
This program will be held in the Casteel Room of the Tye Preston Memorial Library on March 17th, starting at 1:00pm. Reservations are required for this special GPS members’ event and will be limited to 25 people. To register, simply respond to this email with your name and the number of people who will be attending. You will then receive a confirmation. You may reserve as many as four places. Please respond by March 6th.
All about Joan Coffey-Wray: She is a longtime resident of Canyon Lake who has done quite a bit of research in preparing for this interesting presentation. She is Vice President on the Board of Directors of the Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country. Currently she is a member of the incoming Lindheimer Master Naturalist class of 2026. Joan had a 22 year career as a middle school science teacher. You may also consider joining her and the Museum staff on March 21 for their annual Dinosaur Day that is always a big hit with families.
